dated is the wrong word, but i feel like this movie looses something when it is viewed a half century + after it was made. if you look at it with the city (and, i'd venture to say, the time) as another important character--as AP suggested before the screening--then i can see the film's worth, but i'm not sure if it's an interesting enough character to make that worth too high. fantastic for what it is, but not mindblowing.
