PLEASE NOTE: there is a major difference between the scale with which modern movies are being judged and the "classics scale" with which the...well...good ones are being judged.

coraline 3d (selick, 2009)

a visually stunning film, with fantastic, often motivated use of 3d and incredible textures, and a truly fantastic score. unfortunately, movies (at least those that purport such) are supposed to have cohesive, somewhat thought out plots, too. granted, i fell asleep for about 10 minutes in the middle (that's saying something), but the entire thing was inconstant and easy, with terrible adherence to structure (in the bad way), and all-too-easy solutions to problems without stakes (a rock that, without effort, shows the answer to a no-need-to-solve riddle that gives clues on how to win a hide-and-seek game with no time limit....?!?!?!?!). a failure.

4/10
