better than it should have been given the mini-series. best part by far was mel gibson saying (paraphrasing), "would you rather be on the cross, or hammering in the nails?"

interesting reading 3000 before seeing this; i think i liked the script extra picturing julia robers as a crack whore, and i was a bit disappointed to find out that the adjective "crack" had been removed for the film. still, this was a perfectly fun--albeit tame--rom com.

slumdog millionaire (boyle, 2008)
oh, what a difference a week makes. in the time between seeing this movie and making this posting, the zeitgeist completely changed; bombay/mumbai was thrust into the international spotlight.
the movie is good but not great. it hovers somewhere between using the structure from usual suspects (without the twist) and forrest gump, and succeeds at both, but never fully. there is no real developed female character. there is no real character arc for anyone, besides maybe salim, but even that is limited. stylistically, however, it is of course classic boyle beautiful. a good movie, not a great one. and one that you can stand to miss.

another one for class, but this one far from disappointed. my expectations were as low as they could be, and, frankly, i had fun with this. i found the story to be amusingly constructed, and the picture to be well directed.

awwwwww--cuuuuute! nothing too original here (a bit tried, even), but i really enjoyed this friday afternoon viewing. you can tell the movie is a year or two late, and it feels even more unrealisticly high school than can't hardly wait (not that this is a bad thing--CHW is in my top 10 of all time), but still--despite really only being able to name bad things about it, i liked it. i'll see it again--even if i didn't have a midterm on it on monday.
