while i am a bit shocked that are going to let this film be released during the same summer as the dark night (begging for the obvious comparison between heath ledger and robert downey jr's character), i am almost equally as shocked at how much i enjoyed a film that is far from my typical genre of choice (unless apatow is writing it). the movie is filled with highs and lows (and not much in between), and there are some glaring problems (the little kid actor is abysmal, and a few obvious and would-be-funny jokes were missed by the writers), but fantastic performances by jay baruchel (would you expect different?) and a potentially-career-saved tom cruise (i know!!!!), as well as a few atypically funny moments by the film's purported arteur ben stiller, make this a summer film worth seeing.

PLEASE NOTE: there is a major difference between the scale with which modern movies are being judged and the "classics scale" with which the...well...good ones are being judged.
