slumdog millionaire (boyle, 2008)

oh, what a difference a week makes. in the time between seeing this movie and making this posting, the zeitgeist completely changed; bombay/mumbai was thrust into the international spotlight.

the movie is good but not great. it hovers somewhere between using the structure from usual suspects (without the twist) and forrest gump, and succeeds at both, but never fully. there is no real developed female character. there is no real character arc for anyone, besides maybe salim, but even that is limited. stylistically, however, it is of course classic boyle beautiful. a good movie, not a great one. and one that you can stand to miss.
