another classic that just didn't do it for me, but after reading cavell's essay on the awful truth i have to recognize that this probably has more to do with me than it does the film (namely that i hate the genre, but also possibly something to do with means of reception). it was too one note for too long, and any notes they threw in to try to give it variety just ended up lengthening the film with variations of the same thing in a different octave.
