PLEASE NOTE: there is a major difference between the scale with which modern movies are being judged and the "classics scale" with which the...well...good ones are being judged.

star wars episode v: the empire strikes back (kershner, 1980)

another one i hadn't seen since that (now infamous) schulman birthday party, the empire strikes back outdoes its predecessor (as i think is fairly accepted as fact). given that despite my lack of viewing of these movies i still have knowledge of what happens in them, a large part of the aura was lost on me, but viewing part of this film in a simulated theater (long story) did help bring all of the action to life, which was something lost from episode iv's viewing. still, i can only imagine how cool i would have thought yoda's reveal was if i was seeing this for the first time not knowing who yoda is. i'm no longer the star wars hater i was a week ago (although i still stand by my lucas smack-talking), but i don't see why this set of movies is considered by scifi fans to be even on the same level as some of the other bests (ie firefly, which in my mind is far superior).

stark list scale: 3/10
