PLEASE NOTE: there is a major difference between the scale with which modern movies are being judged and the "classics scale" with which the...well...good ones are being judged.

*******SPOILERS BELOW*******

dr. strangelove... (kubrick, 1964)

how did this not make the list?

this one plays more like an episode of a TV show than a movie in that there's not much rising action. then again, this makes sense--the rising action was reality at the time. seemingly every sentence, every action, every character name, and even every background image and combination of letters is full of brilliantly poignant satire. this 95-minute comic masterpiece is from the same person who brought us 2001?!--absolutely mindblowing.

classics scale: 9/10
